Compatriot

It's so not perfect. But it's so completely worth it.

Have you fallen in love with the way we laugh together and the air around us crackles and ignites with joy yet? Can you feel what songs and words live and flutter on the tips of our tongues when the night sky turns the fireflies on high? It's something all around you, and it's anything from extraordinary, because ordinary is exactly what it is:
Oh diaphanous summertime!
We are just the crazy people of the world, taking over and playing make-believe. We live with our smiles on, fears behind, and we talk a lot with our hands. I'll be me, and you'll all laugh at the way I fail with miserable ardour every time I try to do anything impressive. Then I'll be me again, and tease you all for doing the same with me. It's very possible that we are only a pack of fools with wide grins and even wider hearts. True, we embrace what's before us, swallowing it whole. We walk in the dark, but if it weren't for the dark, we'd never see the stars. I'll be thankful, and even if I'm alone for the time being, I'll never forget the way all of us would sing lullabies as the flames leapt to great heights in the midnight.
There was no slumber.

We are The Explorers.
We are the Life-Seizers; strangling it's very juice.
And whenever those sad, shadowy moments come fleeing back to me, I'll think of those imaginary moments that we had together.

OneRepublic Medley

One day, I listened to a lot of OneRepublic. Then I found this video.

The Fallen House

An elephant once said to me, as he whispered in my ear
"Beware the mouse who chews the house and causes men to fear.
For though his strength is tiny, his feet are mighty quick
And though his brain be puny, he'll play on you his tricks."

I lived then in a cottage, as tidy as could be
And heeded not the elephant's words directed straight to me
"What harm could such an innocent beast, so shy and low to ground
Do to I or property mine, to render house unsound?"

And so it was that the little mouse was left to work and toil
And chew away my home sweet home and ground it into soil
Beneath my nose, he chiseled and gnawed and brought
The damage far beyond repair---t'was I who lacked in thought

Tagish

Well dear me, dear me---Lewis has saved the day. I doubt not that you've noticed the lack thereof of posts, and so it was that I happen to be in terrible need of a tag.

Thank you oh Lewis, the great and wonderful, who goeth by the name of "Jack", who is the companion of Sir John Boswell the Hedgehog, and who bloggererth yonder @ http://missjacklewisballiot.blogspot.com!

I. 11 random facts about myself:

1. Every day I have at least one moment in which I hum/sing/mumble the chorus of that song that you hear in the beginning of the Elf credits. I'm not kidding. Every. Day.

2. Figured out that a little garlic salt works wonders when it comes to eggs.

3. I went swimming. On Monday. Kinda cold.

4. Reading Great Expectations right now, and I have the overwhelming urge to name something (or someone) 'Pip'. Or maybe Pepin. Because I'm also studying the the Middle Ages.

5. I have a strange fondness for ice. Ice is always dependable. Ice is always cold. You cannot have not-cold ice. Ever. Or else it's not ice.

6. I think breakfast is overrated.

 7. ---However, the song is brilliant.
Breakfast by Newsboys on Grooveshark

8. I like raw mushrooms. A lot.

9. Autumn is my least favorite season. If you lived in the desert where there are no leaves to change colors, you probably would too.

10. I have to watch the movie before I read the book.

11. I'm not a chick-flick girl. Sorry peeps, but I lose interest when it comes to those. :P

II. The questions from Jack that I'm supposed to answer:

 1. The Doctor shows up and asks you to be his companion at the same time Sherlock asks you to be his blogger. Who'd you pick?
As a hardcore blogger, I'd go with Sherlock. Getting my brains sucked out, my life drained away, or my eyeballs skewered out of my head by an alien race does not at all appeal to me, and though I'm not certain that any of these things have happened to companions in the past, I'm quite sure that it's very likely.

 2. In the great Clara debate, who do YOU think she is. (And if you don't know who Clara is...I've two words for you. No, three. Watch Doctor Who.)
Sherlock's daughter.

 3. You're falling off a building, which Avenger do you want to save you?
Dr. Banner, but just him as himself, not the Hulk. He seems like a very decent fellow.

 4. Would you go for a ride in a cold, hot air balloon?
Oh my gosh---Lewis I love you!!

 5. Does your wardrobe lead to Narnia?
Nope, my bathtub drain does. (thus explaining my long showers)

 6. You meet an Alien who is about to kill you. Do you offer him a Jelly Baby or run?
Not a Jelly Baby---I offer him my services as a interior designer instead.

 7. If your best friend faked his death to save your life, then popped up a year later to inform you he was still alive, would you faint or punch him?
PUNCH HIM. HARD.

 8. Buttered popcorn or plain?
Anything but the cheesy kind or the greasy movie theater stuff.

 9. Have you ever had a flip phone in your position and wished to yell, "Beam me up, Scotty!" into it?
 Likely.

 10. What is your favouritest book?
The Last Battle.

 11. It is raining, do you go for a walk in it or sit by the fire with hot chocolate and a good book?
The book can wait---so can the umbrella, shoes, and coat. WE'RE OUTTA HERE!

III. My 11 questions:

1. What did the spoon say to the fork?

2. If I ask you to make me a pizza, would you assume that I would like mushrooms on it?

3. Would you rather be able to fly or never grow a day older?

4. You are a child's pet goldfish. What do you do to keep yourself entertained?

5. Pixar or Disney? (animation-wise only)

6. Could you eat nachos with chopsticks?

7. If you could rename your best friend, what would their new name be?

8. Choose your weapon: Duct tape, or silver sharpie?

9. Are you partial to a certain eye color?
10. Did you EVER in your WHOLE LIFE play hop-scotch?

11. If you were a book, what would be your last sentence?

IV. My 11 victims:

It just so happens that I have 11 followers. Albeit, I know some of these followers no longer read this blog, or for that matter, care twopence about it. Nevertheless, I'm tagging these, my dear followers, and if they read this, they may consider themselves commissioned to do the following:

Up Shot

Today was joy and pain.
Today was understanding and confusion.
Today was loveliness and destruction.
Today was mercy and hate.
Today was promises kept and lies spoken.
Today was living strong and giving up.
Today was hello and goodbye.
Today was beautiful.

Long Time

So just tie the kite strings to my toes
I'll wipe my sleeve under my nose
'Cause it's too cold where you are

Your voice, it echos in the halls
My hand prints end up on the walls
And on the windows of your car

And you say you miss me when my favorite song
is playing on your radio
Yeah, it's not tricky but I thought that we said our goodbyes
a long, long time ago

But I guess not.

So be the sound that shouts right now
Into the silent crows around
Our daily sound immersion

I'll send you words by pen and ink
You'll say you love the way I think
With my dreary thought diversion

And you say you miss me when my favorite song
is playing on your radio
Yeah, it's not tricky but I thought we said our goodbyes
a long, long time ago.

But I was wrong.

This---but set to tacky guitar chords. :)
The less-than-conscious, more-than-half-asleep me is quite the song writer.

Daylight || Cover by Tyler Ward, Lindsey Stirling, and Chester See

This arrangement sounds like sunshine.

{{so digging this cover}}

I woke up this morning in a hallway on the floor with this song playing in my head.
That was after throwing socks, envelope-hunting in the dark, eating pizza, resurgence of the newly-entitled "K-Maq and the Boys",  3:00AM hockey, foursquare, and the strangest song lyric soliloquies of the century.

Incredible, sleepless night in which I fed the extrovert in me. And a lovely, laughing, loony morning in which we were fed mini muffins and...Cheetos.

Cheers to the remainder of the weekend!

*This is your blogger speaking*

Well now, spring break is over and my nose shall be placed perilously on the grindstone once again. On to a world of education betterment---hear! hear!
I feel like I've accomplished much over the break. It was weird. I actually read an entire book. Dewwwwd, I haven't finished a good, non-school-related piece of lit. in a looong time.
---Probably since *gasp* last summer or something. It's just one of those evil things that comes with Internet access and an excessive amount of textbook material to blaze through daily.

My Brain: "Wha---what EVEN IS THIS??
Me: "A book."
My Brain: "But it's like...on a page, and not on an LED screen, and not burning through my eyeballs, and I don't have to scroll down in order to resume reading."
Me: "Yup."
My Brain: "Whoa...I can feel my inner structures toning up and becoming less mushish."
Me: "Okay, I get it already."
My Brain: "No really---why do you even let me sit and saturate in front of that geometric-shaped object that lights up and you go 'clickity-click' on all day? DON'T YOU REALIZE HOW THIS SO-CALLED TECHNOLOGY DEGRADES ME?!"
Me: *headdesk* "Shut up."
My Brain: *munches contentedly on paper and ink*

It makes even more sense to me now, why great authors and wielders of pen are often caught red-handed in libraries and bookstores. In order to write, you see, you must feed the machine. Devour as many words as you can, consume them rapidly from every paperback, hardback, and article that you can find---then you will be ready to spew them out all over the blank page in front of you.
Alas, novelising has yet to be my cuppa tea, and an artist of pencils and canvas I remain. But a good book doesn't hurt a thing, weather your dreaming, doodling, or demolishing.

That has only been a small segment of Spring Break. Of the rest I care not to tell you.
---And that is my way of saying that I am a lazy girl who does nothing but listen to Hammock, Relient K, and dashes of OneRepublic all afternoon long.

No words. Because words aren't needed.

And what about you? How's life. Confusing? Strange? Glorious? So many analogies, so little time.

Further in,

The Ultimate Power

If I close my eyes for only a second, I am blind. The world is a darkness impenetrable, and I am it's captive, still and breathing in a blanket of nothingness.

If I close my ears to what all is said, I am deaf. My head is filled with the silence of my own thoughts, and nothing but the bells and whistles from within are to be heard.

If I reach out to nothing, I feel not. I am now immovable. Neither the prick, nor pain, nor searing that comes with loss and goodbyes can ever burn me.

I am the stronghold that no one can overthrow, that none might break, and that time has no capacity to grind down. In this way, I have become invincible.

But I have become invincible without love.

For love looks with eyes of kindness, it looks to those who hurt with sympathy. Love's eyes do not scorn, they do not push the needy away, nor do they flee when help is sought from them. Love is kind, and it's eyes see beyond the surface.

And love hears with ears of patience, it finds the voices in the distance crying out for aid, and it answers. Love's ears are not closed to those who look for a friend, those who search for someone to confide in and to depend upon. Love is patient, and it's ears are willing to listen.

Finally, love endures. It does not shrink away from all that is harsh and prickly on the outside. Love does not simply collapse and wither away when rejected. Instead, love will grow stronger, and in all abundance it will blossom, finding the thorns, and replacing them with gentle flowers of grace, mercy, and righteousness. Love will endure through all, and is stronger than that which is called invincibility.

Love is the ultimate power. And none who stand against it will stand for long.

Salad Basket || Adam Young

I was just realizing how every time I hear the ending of this song I want it to be a soundtrack of life.
If I were one of those people who dance in their car, this is what would be blasting out of my stereo system.

Ummumumumumuuum...unexplainable musicly-induced emotions anyone?

Let It All Out || Relient K

Let it all out
Get it all out
Rip it out remove it
Don't be alarmed
When the wound begins to bleed

Cause we're so scared to find out
What this life's all about
So scared we're going to lose it
Not knowing all along
That's exactly what we need

And today I will trust you with the confidence
Of a man who's never known defeat
But tomorrow, upon hearing what I did
I will stare at you in disbelief
Oh, inconsistent me
Crying out for consistency

[Chorus:]
And you said I know that this will hurt
But if I don't break your heart then things will just get worse
If the burden seems too much to bear
Remember
The end will justify the pain it took to get us there

And I'll let it be known
At times I have shown
Signs of all my weakness
But somewhere in me
There is strength

And you promise me
That you believe
In time I will defeat this
Cause somewhere in me
There is strength

And today I will trust you with the confidence
Of a man who's never known defeat
And I'll try my best to just forget
That that man isn't me

[Chorus x2]

Reach out to me
Make my heart brand new
Every beat will be for you
For you

And I know you know
You touched my life
When you touched my heavy heart and made it light

From Where You Cometh
