Names do seem to be a basis for judging a character. I do it sometimes as well. (I suppose all readers are judgmental when it comes to books.)
Is your word count caught up now? Re-writing miles and miles goes with NaNo I think. There is no way out of it. I suppose that is the point...stuffing a sock in our inner editors mouth and laughing at their misery. Though after all the massive editing I just did, I can't get my inner editor to shut up...oh well.
