I Bid Fare Well To August

Today is the last day of August. The reason why I bring this up so bluntly, is because August has always been one of the most special months of the year for me. This is not only because my birthday is in this month, but also because it is sort of the last chance to squeeze in all the summer fun you can possibly squish into your year. At first, this seems like something I would dread. I don't exactly like goodbyes all that much. But when we sit back, and look at our summer gone by, (or at least most of it gone by, since officially, it doesn't actually end 'til next month) we realize something:

The Holidays are just around the corner.
The best is yet to come.

...What a nice thought! Without my little "good things/good times around the corner" thoughts that I get daily I don't think I'd make it through the week.
There is always something to look forward to.

Changing up the subject a little:

I just had an interestingly simple realization today.
I was sitting on the couch, just thinking. The couch I was sitting on faces the windows. The blinds were wide open, and sunshine was kinda illuminating the room. I looked out the window, and I saw the sky.
Just the sky. No clouds, no airplanes, not helicopters, not air balloons.
Just sky.
And then it struck me:
The sky is blue.
Just blue. Not plain old white. A beautiful, clear, striking, amazing blue.

We often take a fact so simple as that for granted. An hour ago, for all I cared, the sky could be white. When we trap ourselves inside, and don't look out the windows, we don't even care what color the sky is.We think our daily, hectic life schedules are more important than anything. And indeed, our lives and how we live them is important. But to let ourselves caught up in so many things at once, without ever taking the time to realize the beauty, and magic, and wonder of the things surrounding us, and just around the corner just seems like such a waste.

Look at the colors around you. In nature. Out your window.
Look at the wind that blunders through your backyard. Watch how free it is. Yet it never is satisfied about where it gets.

...There's a lesson in that, I'm sure.

Goodbye August,
We shall meet soon again.

-Plink.
